The Kansas City Business Journal reports Oxford on the Blue - a property that sits between Prospect and I-435 in south KC - might be a potential Amazon site. The site offers more than 300 acres and is ready for construction. Whitney Kerr Sr., a senior vice president with Cushman & Wakefield’s Kansas City office, confirmed Oxford on the Blue is one of the choices being presented to Amazon.
“It’s one of the best sites, if not the only site, that’s close in that can accommodate 8 million feet of space eventually with the ability to get 50,000 people in and out of there easily,” Kerr said. Amazon says the project would bring $50,000 jobs, and billions in investments.
The rolling, wooded acreage is bracketed on the west by Interstate 49 and on the east by I-435, Kerr added. It’s also just a mile east of 85th Street and Prospect Ave., which is the end of the old Country Club trolley line right of way that has long been viewed as the best route for extending the city’s streetcar system south of the Country Club Plaza, he said.
Oxford on the Blue is just one potential site. And it's already zoned for a project like this. Some of the infrastructure is already in place. Landing the Amazon project would transform this city's work force.
"I think it will do a lot for the city, regardless of what site they might select if they come here," said Vickie Wolgast with the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. "Any city is going to have a challenge finding that many employees, but I know we've got the workforce here to make that happen." Full story from KMBC News
