KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Wayside Waifs Promotes Kathryn Mahoney as new President. Wayside’s Board of Directors is thrilled to welcome Mahoney as President from her role of VP of Finance & Administration.
“I am honored to serve Wayside in this new capacity,” said Mahoney. “The Organization is in a great position and I’m excited to work with the Board of Directors and staff to see how much we can accomplish for the pets and people in Kansas City and beyond.”
Mahoney has been with Wayside since 2015 as the Vice President of Finance & Administration. Prior to joining Wayside, she had ten years of non-profit accounting experience, seven of which were earned as the Vice President of Finance and Administration at the Houston SPCA, the oldest and largest animal shelter in the Gulf Coast. She is a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator through The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement. She is a Certified Public Accountant and is FEMA National Incident Management Certified. In 2021 she was awarded the CFO of the Year by the Kansas City Business Journal. She has served on the boards of The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement and St. Therese Catholic School. She is an active member with Toastmasters International and Nonprofit Connect along with the Belton, Grandview, and South Kansas City Chambers of Commerce. Mahoney attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX and received a degree in Accounting and Finance.
Mahoney was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She’s always loved animals and has had a menagerie of pets throughout her life. She now resides in Missouri with her husband Michael who was raised in Overland Park, KS; two children, two dogs, a cat and a guinea pig.
Mahoney has been serving as Wayside’s Interim President since her predecessor’s departure on February 11, 2022. She will continue handling all Vice President of Finance & Administration duties until a replacement has been hired.
Wayside’s Executive Committee of the Board of Directors began searching for a new President in late February. They are excited that they found a great fit for the role.
“‘Integrity’ and ‘Passion for the Cause’ were the top two characteristics Wayside Waifs leadership, donors, and board members identified as the qualities they hoped to see in their next President, said Rusty Smith, Wayside’s Board Chairperson. “We believe Kathryn clearly possesses these qualities, and so many more, and we are excited for what lies ahead for Wayside Waifs under her leadership.”
