Selected Independent Funeral Homes has announced it has appointed Steve Pierce, President of Muehlebach Funeral Care in Kansas City, MO and Skradski Funeral Home in Kansas City, KS, to its Board of Directors. Pierce will represent Group 4 and assist the Board in leading the world’s oldest association of independently-owned funeral homes. He will be installed later this year at the Annual Meeting, September 30 – October 3 at the Lé Westin Montreal in Montreal, Canada.

Pierce has had a strong connection to Selected since joining in 2008 and has regularly attended the Annual Meeting, hosted a Group Roundtable meeting, is a member of the Selected Study Group Program, and has served on the Educational Trust Board.

“I am truly honored to be a part of Selected’s Board of Directors,” said Pierce. “I believe Selected is the ‘best of the best’ and I would like to help continue the Selected tradition of leadership in funeral service in my new position.”

Pierce currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Community Foundation Fund, Bright Futures Fund and is the Co-Executive Director of the Catholic Cemeteries of Kansas City-St. Joseph. In 2016 Muehlebach Funeral Care was recognized as one of the top 25 companies with under 25 employees in the Kansas City Metropolitan area.

Earlier this year Selected approved a governance change to the Board of Directors increasing the body from six voting members and one ex-officio to eight voting members, each serving a four-year term instead of the previous three-year term. The new Board of Directors appointed from Groups 1 and 2 will serve 3-year terms and the new Directors from Groups 4 and 6 will be the first to serve four-year terms under the new structure.
