Committees 

The South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce has several committees to get involved with!  Serving on a Chamber committee allows members to use their talents in areas that interest them and gives additional opportunities to develop new business relationships.  Please take a moment to review these and sign up for one today!

Government Affairs Committee

Purpose: To provide leadership, information and advocacy that enhances the economic environment and represents the political interests of the South Kansas City Business Community through legislative action.

Goals:

  • Research, develop, educate and recommend issue positions to the Chamber Board of Directors.
  • Annually develop Legislative Priorities to reflect the concerns and opinions of the membership.
  • Host six Legislative Breakfasts with local, state and federal government officials to explore critical issues.
  • Host public forums on issues and for candidates running for local and state office.
  • Have an involved focus on local legislative issues by meeting with the Mayor and council representatives one on one.
  • Assist in organizing a trip to Jefferson City to meet with state elected officials and department leaders.
  • Assist in planning a Washington DC Fly-In to give members an opportunity to meet withfederal government officials on important issues to our community.


Membership Committee

Purpose:  To assist the Chamber in member growth and retention.

Goals:

  • Increase membership by 40 new companies in 2016.
  • Implement a membership campaign in the spring to recruit new members.
  • Continue to implement an incentive plan to reward membership recruitment.
  • Create a membership mentoring program to get new members actively engaged in the Chamber.
  • Personally deliver welcome packets and decals to each new Chamber member.
  • Recruit 5 new members to the Membership Committee.
  • Host a quarterly New Member Orientation for new Chamber members.


Marketing & Event Committee

Purpose: To assist in the development, planning and promotion of Chamber programs and events and related marketing materials.

Goals:

  • Coordinate and host 12 Morning Mingle Events.
  • Coordinate and host 12 chamber luncheons annually with relevant topics and highly visible speakers.
  • Assist staff in developing materials for effectively promoting events and programs.
  • Develop a task force to plan the Annual Dinner.
  • Develop a task force to plan the annual Golf Tournament.
  • Develop a task force to plan the 5K Run/Walk event.
  • Coordinate seminars and other training opportunities for members.
  • Oversee the publication of the South Kansas City Community Book.
  • Develop and implement a Shop Local Program
  • Host Quarterly Business After Hours Events
  • Promote resources to help businesses with employee recruitment.
  • Continue to do weekly showcase of members via social medial.


Golf Tournament Task Force

Purpose: Plan and coordinate a successful Golf Tournament in Spring 2016.

Goals:

  • Plan a fun networking event for South Kansas City Chamber members.
  • Obtain sponsorships, raffle prizes and door prizes to enhance the players’ experience.
  • Promote and publicize the event to Chamber members and the community to recruit players.
  • Evaluate the program, its revenues and resources for future event planning.


Annual Dinner Task Force

Purpose:  Plan and coordinate a successful Annual Dinner in February 2016.

Goals:

  • Plan a fun networking event for South Kansas City Chamber members.
  • Obtain sponsorships and auction items to net $16,000 from the event.
  • Promote and publicize the event to Chamber members to encourage attendance.
  • Evaluate the program, its revenues and resources for future event planning.


South KC 5K Run/Walk Task Force

Purpose:        Plan and coordinate a successful 5K Run/Walk in November 2016.

Goals:

  • Plan a fun networking event for South Kansas City businesses and community members.
  • Obtain sponsorships and in-kind donations to enhance the runners and walkers’ experience.
  • Promote and publicize the event to Chamber members and the community to recruit players.
  • Evaluate the program, its revenues and resources for future event planning.
